Every decision Obsidian makes to respect its users costs them money. No upfront paywall means lower conversions. No tracking means no ad revenue and no growth metrics to optimize against. No account means no email list to win you back. An open data format means anyone can leave whenever they want.

That is the actual price of respect, and almost nobody pays it.

In this video I go through the green flags I look for in software, the red flags that tell me a developer sees me as a number, why the Dia browser is a strange case, and the specific rules we set for Stash so it does not become one of the things I complain about.
